What is kombucha?

Kombucha is a fermented tea that has been consumed for thousands of years. It is thought to have originated in China, moving westward over the years. Kombucha is produced by fermenting sugared tea using a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) or - as we like to call it - a "mother". During the fermentation process, most of the sugar is metabolized and transformed, leaving a slightly sweet and tart-tasting masterpiece.


What is fermentation?

Fermentation is the process in which a substance breaks down into a simpler substance. Microorganisms like yeast and bacteria usually play a role in the fermentation process, creating beer, wine, bread, kimchi, yogurt and other foods.

Our ingredients are transparent and simple, we don’t hide anything. We start by fermenting the kombucha, using green tea and our kombucha base, the SCOBY. When this is ready, we simply add natural fruit juices and alcohol to complete our masterpiece. No added sugar, no sweeteners, no fancy T&Cs – just clear and clean ingredients.

BEO Kombucha is an Amsterdam-based hard kombucha brand founded in 2021. Our mission is to create a natural, sustainable, and delicious hard kombucha to add some spice to the beer-heavy market of today. BEO is produced and bottled locally, at the Zanse Schans to be precise, keeping air miles and emissions to an absolute minimum. 


Our ingredients are simple, we don’t hide anything. We start by fermenting the kombucha, using green tea and our kombucha base, the SCOBY. When this is ready, we simply add natural fruit juices and alcohol to complete our masterpiece. No added sugar, no sketchy sweeteners, no fancy T&Cs – just clear and clean ingredients (with a fun 6.2% kick).
